Northside Livable Center Study

The Houston-Galveston Area Council Northside Livable Center study provides recommendations for the Northside area in the City of Houston. This area is directly north of downtown and bounded approximately by 1-10, 1-45, Patton Street and Elysian Street. Airline Corridor – University of Houston Community Design Resource Center

The mission of the Community Design Resource Center (CDRC) is to enhance the quality of life in low-to-moderate income communities throughout the Houston region through design, research, education and practice. The CDRC partnered with Greater Northside Management District to address issues of community development, design and planning for the Airline Corridor to help enhance the public realm. The study gave recommendations to create safe and comfortable pedestrian zones in the commercial corridor. Click here to view the study.

The Houston-Galveston Area Council Independence Heights-Northline Livable Center Study provides recommendations for the Independence Heights area west of I-45 and the Northline Commons area in the City of Houston. Local partners included the Greater Northside Management District, the Independence Heights Redevelopment Council and the Northline Development. Click here to view the study.

Urban Land Institute Technical Assistance Panel Report

The Urban Land Institute Technical Assistance Panel Report provides recommendations for Transit-Oriented Development in the Near Northside area. Local partners included the Greater Northside Management District, Central Houston Civic Improvement, Inc., Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO), Urban Land Institute and University of Houston-Downtown. Click here to view the study.

2013

Greater Northside Management District Pedestrian/Transit Access Master Transportation Plan

The Goodman Corporation documented pedestrian and transit infrastructure along 11 corridors throughout the Greater Northside Management District, which allowed us to apply for federal grants for transportation improvements. The first grant was awarded in October 2015 for the Quitman Pedestrian-Transit Improvements. Click here to view the study.

2018

Greater Northside Urban Design Toolkit

The University of Houston Community Design Resource Center and the Greater Northside Management District hosted meetings with business owners to develop design standards and economic development tools for business owners and partners in the Jensen-Eastex, Greater Heights, Independence Heights, Northline and Near Northside communities. The goal is to tell the stories and celebrate the qualities that make the District and its neighborhoods special. The strategies rethink everyday urban elements and explore how they can contribute to building beauty, identity and place. Click here to view the study.

2020

Greater Northside I-45 Expansion Project Report by the University of Houston Community Design Resource Center (CDRC)

The University of Houston CDRC hosted meetings with the City of Houston and stakeholders to determine the impact of the I-45 Expansion Project on business owners and partners. The CDRC compiled a summary report on mitigation recommendations for various project impacts from traffic, property, flooding and connections. Click here to view the study.
